The puppy that Brian Myers had only rescued a few months earlier ended up saving his life. And unlike when they first met, their reunion after Myers was discharged from the hospital was even more emotional.
Sadie, a 6-year-old German shepherd, was rescued by Myers from the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in New Jersey after being abandoned there. Sadie was defensive towards men and the shelter personnel had a hard time placing her.
According to Heather Centrella, the front office manager of Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, “[She] was] a little standoffish when she first came and she wasn’t sure what was going on.” We were aware that she would require an experienced home with a patient family because she started to become a little shut-down while staying in the shelter.
After meeting Sadie, Myers made the decision to take her home in only thirty minutes.
The problems she was rumored to have had with males vanished.
We formed a close friendship when she jumped into my car. I was able to resolve her issues and resolved to provide her with the home and affection she deserved, Myers wrote in a Facebook post.
Myers told The Washington Post, “She started licking me and crying, so I stretched my right hand up to comfort her and then I grabbed her collar.”
Myers was unaware that Sadie would be important in his survival a few months later.
The couple was having a romantic evening at home when Myers unexpectedly suffered a stroke. He was unable to feel his left side or the space between his bed and the wall.
It was quite frightening since Myers couldn’t get up and didn’t know at the time that she had suffered a stroke. There was no way for me to reach my phone, which was on the dresser about 15 feet away.
In an effort to revive her father, Sadie acted quickly and licked his face.
The dog would not depart from his side.
She continued to bark in the hopes that the neighbors would hear her. When Myers went out to grab her collar, what happened next very much shocked him.
Sadie then dragged her father across the room so he could have a better view of his phone using all of her power.
She wasn’t a service dog; yet, he said that she was distressed by what was happening and could sense when I was in danger. I’m not sure how she accomplished it, but she was aware.
Myers was able to get to his phone and make a help request. Myers was informed by hospital staff that Sadie was probably responsible for saving his life.
Sadie lived with Myer’s family when her father was hospitalized and then treated for alcohol abuse.
They FaceTime, which he claimed she finds a little confusing since she wants to confront her father and cries, according to Centrella. However, he promises her that he is making every effort to return to her as soon as is practical so they may be reunited.
It was a really happy day when that day finally came.
As Sadie sprang into his arms and kissed his face, Myers started to cry.
Myers declared that adopting her had been the finest choice he had ever made. “I genuinely believe it was meant to be,”
